Theresa Leger Derouen, 88, of Lake Charles died Wednesday, October 23, 2019 in a local healthcare facility.
Mrs. Derouen was born and raised in Rayne, LA and has lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She raised her children and then started working as a short order cook at Big R Burgers and later in life was a cook for the children at Love, Laugh and Learn Daycare. She loved children as she was always a welcoming and loving grandmother, daycare gave her yet another opportunity to bring a smile to them and them to her. Mrs. Derouen was a fantastic cook with roast rice and gravy, fried chicken, eggplant dressing, half-moon pies and sugar popcorn/popcorn balls being a few of her specialties. A gathering of family and friends for Sunday and holiday dinners were amongst her greatest memories. She also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. Mrs. Derouen will be most remembered for her love and devotion to her Lord and her family. A devout Catholic, she was a lady of faith and prayer, a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, The Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the home commitment and The Cursillo’s Movement.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Brenda Derouen Conner and husband Ronald of Lake Charles and Patricia Derouen Bebee of Lake Charles; eight grandchildren, Brad Derouen (Tara), Kurt Derouen (Cristalle), Wendy Guidry (Randall), Toby Bebee (Susan), Chad Bebee (Tara), Kristie Barrow (Bert), Kelly Travis (Byron) and John Allen Conner (Ola); twenty-nine great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; one sister, Joyce Duhon of Church Point and daughter-in-law, Gwen Derouen of Galveston, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over fifty years, Ernest Derouen; son, Robert Derouen; daughter, Margaret Derouen Langley; parents, Joseph and Lucille Bordes Leger; one sister, Beatrice Leger Fullington and three brothers, Woodley Leger, Henry Leger, Sr. and Willard Leger.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 2:30 PM Monday October 28, 2019 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Father Trey Ange will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Monday will be from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM with a Cursillo rosary beginning at 12:00 PM.
