Thomas Ed Phillips

October 24, 1926 — February 22, 2012

Thomas Edwin "Ed" Phillips Sr., 85, died in a Lafayette Hospital Wednesday, February 22, 2012.


Mr. Phillips was a 32nd Degree Mason, Shriner and member of the VFW # 4347548. Mr. Phillips was a member of the IBEW Local 861. He was a retired Electrician after 45 years of service. He was a hunter and fisherman. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grand father.


Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Agnes Reeves Phillips; three brothers Glennon, Jack, and Gerald Phillips: Son, Thomas Edwin Phillips Jr.; grandson, Thomas Edwin Phillips III.


He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Gereline "Jeri" Benoit Phillips of Lafayette; son, Wynn and wife Joyce Phillips of Lafayette; daughter-in-law, Fran Moreau Phillips of Baton Rouge; grandsons, Todd Phillips and Fiance' Bonnie, and Wynn Allen Phillips Jr. and wife Lauren of Lafayette, La; granddaughter, Marielle and husband Jerry Babb of Lafayette, La ; 4 great grand children, Thomas, Paige, TJ, Trevor and expecting Benjamin Allen; sister, Elaine Smith of Lake Charles; sister-in-law Sally Phillips of New Orleans and several nieces and nephews.


Active Pallbearers will include Wynn Phillips, Todd Phillips, Allen Phillips,Thomas Phillips, Phillip Smith, and Jerry Babb.


His Funeral will be 1 PM Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Home.

Rev. Karl Klaus of St. Luke Simpson and RB Smith a local mason will officiate.

Burial will be in Old Ritchie Cemetery in Moss Bluff. Visitation will be held Friday, February 24, 2012 from 5 PM-9PM and Saturday from 10 AM- 1PM.


Special thanks to the 7th floor staff at Lafayette General Hospital, Hospice of Acadiana, and the caring staff at Cornerstone South. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital of Shreveport and Hospice of Acadiana.
