Thomas Edward Hebert, Sr.

October 29, 1932 — January 4, 2011

Tommy Hebert, 78, of Lake Charles, died at 9:10 AM Tuesday at his residence.


Mr. Hebert was born in Hilly, La., near Ruston, La. and moved to West Monroe where he graduated from Ouachita Parish High School. Mr. Hebert worked for the West Monroe Police Department for eighteen years, retiring as a captain. After his retirement, Mr. Hebert moved to Lake Charles where he went to work for Hercules/Himont.


In 1985 , Mr. Hebert joined the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office where he worked for fifteen years retiring as number three in command and supervisor of the Internal Affairs Division. He was a lifetime member of the Louisiana Sheriff's Association and the Louisiana Peace Officer's Association.


Mr. Hebert loved to hunt and fish. He was also active in the community coaching Little League baseball. Mr. Hebert was a member of the Masonic Lodge.


His wife of forty-nine years, Abbie McMillan, his parents Boots and Fred Hebert as well as his biological father, Buddy Coleman preceded him in death.


He is survived by his son Buddy Hebert and his wife Connie; three daughters, Patti Painter and her husband Bill, Becky Lee and her husband Richard, all of Lake Charles, and Rhonda Amundsen and her husband Ralph of Onalaska, WI. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 6, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Bart Leger, Chaplain for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Visitation on Thursday will be from 10:00 AM until time of services.


Mr. Hebert was cremated under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
