Thomas Eugene Coyne

December 25, 1923 — June 5, 2022

Thomas Eugene Coyne, 98, of Lake Charles, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2022.

Thomas was a native of Carlinville, IL and a longtime resident of Lake Charles. He was a United States Marine that honorably and faithfully served our nation in World War II. After his service, Thomas found himself working in the major construction that occurred right after the war in Lake Charles. He was a cement mason that took great pride in his work. The Petro-Chemical plants that dot the landscape of Lake Charles, Prien Lake Mall and the civic center are to name just a few of the ways he helped sculpt the landscape of the Lake Area. He trained many people in the concrete industry during his career which spanned many decades until his retirement in his 80’s. He proudly continued his membership in the Plasters and Cement masons local 487 until his death. After he retired, his favorite pass time was to sit on his front porch and drink beer. To his family, friends, and the community at large he was the “Jack of all trades,” as he was called to aide in everything including electrical, plumbing and general construction. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Joseph and Myrtle Arnold Coyne; brothers, Jim Coyne and Jack Coyne; son, Tommy Coyne; and beloved wife of 45 years, Emily George Coyne. Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Cammy Coyne Salvador and husband David, Lake Charles; grandchildren, Kristi Sonnier (Chad), Kara Giovannelli (Leonardo), Katie Richards (Scott), Tommy Salvador and Anna Salvador; great grandchildren, Karli, Cory, Amelie, Vicente, Viviana and Tyndall; the employees of his neighboring CINTAS plant, as well as an extended family numerous nieces, nephews and extended family of the heart.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday June 7, 2022 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and will continue on Wednesday June 8 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. A funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday June 8 with the Rev. Dr. Mitzi George officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, all under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
