Thomas Gerald "Jerry" Gulledge, 75, of Lake Charles died at 7:00 AM on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 in his sister's residence. Mr. Gulledge was born on January 1, 1939 in Mobile, AL and moved to Lake Charles with his sister and brother-in-law in 2008 due to having a stroke. He was a graduate of McGill High School in Mobile, AL where he played football and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Mr. Gulledge also graduated from Auburn University where he was right guard on the football team from 1957 to 1961, having been named the National Champions in 1958. Mr. Gulledge served in the U.S. Marine Reserves. He was a retired security guard and also worked as a retail sales association. Mr. Gulledge was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Those left to cherish his memory are a sister, Ruby Brame and husband Alfred of Lake Charles; a brother, Dudley Gulledge and wife Betty of Tuscaloosa, AL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie and James Gulledge; two sisters, Ann Daly and husband Jerome and Dianne McKinney; and a brother, Curtis Gulledge. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 6, 2014 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Sister Jeanette Touchett will officiate. Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 1:00 PM until the start of the service. The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Earl Wilder and also to Amedisys Hospice for their care and compassion given to Mr. Gulledge during this time.
