Thomas Jerome Ruehlen

Thomas Jerome Ruehlen, known to his family and friends as "Jerry," died Tuesday, September 12, 2023, in the comfort of his home in Lake Charles. Jerry was born in McPherson, Kansas on May 7, 1937 to Cecil Thomas and Alice Caroline (Duncan) Ruehlen, who preceded him in death. He was married to the love of his life and survived by the Rev. Petroula Kephala Ruehlen. He is also survived by their two children, Timothy Ruehlen and Alicia Cashman and husband Rick; his sister, Mary Elisabeth Lindig; brother, Michael Duncan Ruehlen and his grandson, Andrew Cashman. 

He was a graduate of the Louisiana State University school of Architecture, and he was licensed to practice in Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, and Greece. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects and past president of the local chapter. He practiced architecture for many years, won design awards, and enjoyed nothing more than having a satisfied client. Jerry worked for many architectural firms as well as his own firm and was most fortunate to work with many outstanding builders and craftsmen whom he held in high esteem.

 He was a member and past president of the Lake Charles Downtown Rotary Club and Paul Harris Fellow. He was also past board member and past president of Camp Fire Council of Sowela, and past board member of the Calcasieu Women's Shelter. 

Jerry had many outside interests that he enjoyed, including friends, drawing, writing, watercolor painting, wood working, and gardening.

A Memorial service will be at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 11:00 AM.  Services will be officiated by The Reverend Dr. Mitzi George and assisted by The Reverend Frances "Boo" Kay. The interment will be in the Chapel of the Resurrection, which Jerry designed. The visitation and reception will take place after the service in Hardtner Hall.
