Thomas Marshall Wells

March 9, 1945 — February 28, 2015

On Saturday evening, February 28, 2015, Thomas Marshall Wells peacefully passed away at 69 years of age. He was born in Lake Charles, LA on March 9, 1945. He went to high school at Patterson High School and was on the high school football team. He graduated Salutatorian from Patterson High School in Patterson, LA in 1963. Tom studied mechanical engineering at McNeese State and graduated in1967. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant. He was a pilot in the service and proudly served onboard the aircraft carrier, USS Intrepid. Aviation was a passion of his. After the service, he took pride in building and flying model airplanes. He also enjoyed reading books and watching films and shows on flying, and flew in WWII aircraft as a hobby. He kept this hobby for the rest of his life. After the Navy, he began working at Neches Butane in Port Neches, Texas as a mechanical engineer and became head of the safety inspection department. As Neches Butane became Texaco and then Huntsman, Tom continued with the company. After 38 years, he retired in 2012. After retirement, he wanted to begin traveling again. He had traveled much in the service. He developed a relationship with Sherry Blount of Lake Charles, LA. She was his partner and they traveled to many destinations such as Alaska, the north-eastern United States to visit various cities and see the leaves change, and to many European countries which included Normandy Beach. Tom and Sherry planned an upcoming trip to Hawaii. His pride and joy was his family, especially his grandson, Jack. He was a loving father and is survived by his son, Aaron Wells and wife Corinne of Austin, TX; sister, Nannette Wells Byars and husband Bob of Hemphill, TX; brothers, Duncan Wells and wife Betty of Moss Bluff, LA and Scott Wells and wife Tammy of Houston, TX; partner and best friend, Sherry Blount of Lake Charles; grandchild, Jack Wells and one on-the-way; mother of his son, Vickie Wells of Dallas, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Eugene and Adeline Stough Wells. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Bruce Baker will officiate. Burial will follow in Sallier Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
