Thomas Riley "Tommy" Lawson

September 26, 1946 — January 28, 2023

Thomas “Tommy” Riley Lawson 76, passed away on January 28, 2023 at his home in Lake Charles.

Tommy was a Plant Operator at Sasol where he retired as a Shift Supervisor.  He loved his work family very much, so much that when he retired, he went back as a contracted worker just to be with them.  He stayed there as long as he could and spoke often about how much he missed his plant family.

When Tommy was not at work he was at home with his family where he was loved deeply.  Tommy was our family’s “entertainer.”  He loved to fish, swim, ski, hunt, ride motorcycles, play baseball.  He loved everything and made sure you did too.  If you did not know how to do whatever activity he picked he would teach you.  He was a Coach for his childrens’ teams and an extended father to anyone that needed him.  If you knew Tommy you knew an honest, straight forward man who would tell you the truth, not what you wanted to hear.  He was strong and loving, but most of all the BEST daddy to two kids who thought the world of him.  His best role was a father because he was always there when his children needed him, and the perfect kind of father that they needed.

When Tommy moved to Louisiana, he settled into River Life on Goos Ferry Road.  He gained even more family as he was welcomed by many wonderful people that he enjoyed every single day.  Goos Ferry Road was his home and those were his people.  He loved that River, and it loved him.

Tommy became a Paw Paw, and he adored his grandchildren, always proud to show them off.  Recently Tommy became a great grandfather and was looking forward to T-Ball this coming April.  His love for sports was known and he was an amazing athlete.  T-Ball was the beginning of a whole new generation of baseball lovers.  A Houston Astros fan and LSU fan, he wore the colors well.

He leaves behind, his daughter, Kelly Bryan (Charles); his son Brian Lawson; six grandchildren, Kamri Engelking, Sydny Bryan, Austin Lawson, Taylor Gordon, Kynsley Crisman, Kaylee Cormier; and three great grandchildren, Riley Gordon, Lawson Engelking, Laney Engelking; and his sister, Doris Carver (Danny).

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Boatright Lawson; and his parents Sarah Montine and James Monroe Lawson.

Tommy’s Funeral service will be held in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 4, 2023.  Eric Stricklin will officiate.  Entombment will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, February 3, 2023, and will resume on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the start of the service at 11:00 AM.
