It is with a heavy heart that the family of Thomas “Tommy” George Coyne, announce his death at 65 years of age.
Tommy was born on August 30, 1950, in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Thomas Eugene and Emily George Coyne. He was a long time concrete sales representative in Southwest Louisiana and most recently the Regional General Manager of Port Aggregrates. He was a graduate of Lake Charles High School and McNeese State University where he was a member of the track team and also a member of Kappa Sig Fraternity. He was the 1983 Louisiana State Racquetball Champion. His alter ego was Marty Hogan who was a pro national racquetball player.
Tommy served on several boards and was involved in many associations over the years. He was on the McNeese Alumni Board of Directors, CCA Board, Southwest Louisiana Home Builders Association Board and Past Associate Co-Chairman, member of LFRC, member of ARC, member of McNeese Mavericks, McNeese State University Champagne Bingo Caller and a member of the McNeese State University Cowboy Club.
Although Tommy always described himself as a “Quiet, Passive, Shy, Insecure Guy” he was always the life of the party. He always had life phrases to tell you, like; “Life is Good in America”, Everyone will remember him as “The Man, The Myth, The Legend”. No matter the situation you could always count on Tommy to make comments that make you laugh and smile.
He was an avid duck hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed life on the river where he hosted annual river parties and loved McNeese State University Football.
Tommy was preceded in death by his mother.
Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory are his spouse of 26 years, Susan Tyndall “Lucious” Coyne; 3 daughters and sons-in-law (also known as K1, K2 and K3), Kristi and Chad Sonnier, Kara and Leonardo Giovannelli, Katie and Joel Thibodeaux; father, Thomas Eugene Coyne; sister and brother-in-law, Camille Coyne and David Salvador; 5 grandchildren, Karli and Cory Sonnier, Amelie, Vicente and Viviana Giovannelli; niece, Anna Salvador; nephew, Tommy Salvador; Dog, Radar “the duck detector” #4; Host of cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Monday May 16, 2016 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana with Mother Mitzi George officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, with the family will be on Sunday from 1 PM to 5PM and Monday from 11 AM till time of service.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Tommy Coyne Scholarship Fund at McNeese State University C/O The McNeese Foundation or the McNeese Alumni Association.
Honorary Pallbears will be Jim Mistretta, Stanley Caldarera, Jeff Corbello and Tommy Salvador.
Paul George, Kevin Richard, Clay Brame, Matt George, George Paret, John Myers, Matt Morgan and Dannie Fontenot will serve as active pallbearers.
