Thor Olav Schmidt

Thor Olav Schmidt, 42, of Sulphur, LA died on Friday, August 31, 2012 in a car accident in Vidor, TX.

Thor was born December 20, 1968 in Los Angeles, CA and raised in Monroe, LA. He lived in Texas for a few years before settling in Sulphur, LA six years ago. He graduated from the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and Art in Natchitoches, LA, attended the University of Texas and graduated from Northeast Louisiana University. He received his law degree from Texas Wesleyan School of Law in Fort Worth, TX. Thor previously worked as a probation officer in Monroe for three years. He worked as a self-employed landman and most recently worked for HPS out of Lafayette. He loved sports and enjoyed partaking in fantasy football and all fantasy sports. Thor was an avid Saints, Dodgers and Lakers fan. He will always be remembered as a loving husband and will be missed dearly.

Thor is survived by his wife of eight years, Lee Guerriero Schmidt of Sulphur, LA; parents, Uwe Schmidt and companion Marzelle Hemphill of West Monroe, LA and Ingrid Gray and husband John of Monroe, LA; siblings, Mark Gray, Matt Gray, Sissy Brown, Bill Gray, Megan Schmidt, Jessie Schmidt, Walter Schmidt, and Max Schmidt; numerous nieces and nephews; all of his friends on the Bastard Fantasy Football League, who were his brothers in heart and soul, Brian Davis, Alan Nowell, Bruce Parker, John Jinuntuya, Brad Smith, Andre Jackson, David Blauer, Terrance Walker, Tom Puangpee, Davin Toruta, and Michael Bodie; and his beloved cats, Colonel Chauncey Reese and Maggie Malone.

He was preceded in death by his loyal cat, General Sterling Price.

His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Chris Fuselier will officiate. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Sulphur, LA. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM and continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
