On Wednesday, December 9, 2020, Troy Gene Portie, loving husband and father of two children and three grandchildren, passed away at the age of 87, at home surrounded by family.
Troy was born on September 14, 1933 in Sulphur, LA, to Chester and Telcide (Theriot) Portie. He graduated from Sulphur High School in 1951 and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1955. He served in the United States Army and was based in El Paso, TX and Washington DC. After serving, he worked in the construction industry for various companies and positions for over 50 years.
On January 28, 1961, he married Caroll Ann Colligan and they raised two children, Chester, and Charlotte “Missy”.
Through the years, Troy loved to hunt, fish, attend Mardi Gras balls, dance, and spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
On Friday nights, during the football season, you could find Troy in the stands on the 50-yard line watching the Sulphur Golden Tornadoes. On Saturdays, he would be in front of the tv watching his beloved Aggies play football. Every year you could see him working in the funnel cake booth at St. Theresa’s Bon Ton Festival.
Troy was preceded in death by his father, Chester, and his mother, Telcide “Toot”. He is survived by his wife Caroll, his son Chet, his daughter Missy and her husband Keith. He was affectionately called “Pop” by his grandson and namesake Troy James and his New Orleans granddaughters, Jordan, and Jessica.
A celebration of his remarkable life will be held at a much later date when it is safe to do so. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Theresa Catholic Church or your favorite charity in honor of Troy.
