Troy Knighten, 88, of Lake Charles passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, January 26, 2015. Mr. Knighten was an active member of University Baptist Church. His favorite past time was fishing with his sons. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren. He was honored as a WWII/Korea veteran in the Navy. Mr. Knighten served on the USS Boyd 544 destroyer and others of the Pacific Fleet where he survived 13 campaigns. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Anna Knighten; four children, Thomas Knighten of Florida, Terry Knighten and his wife Kathy of Sulphur, Larry Knighten and his wife, Debora of Carlyss, and Pamela Bertrand of Florida; grandchildren, Stephanie Tanner and Rhonda Knighten both of Texas, and Troy Knighten, Blake Knighten, and Allana Bertrand all of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie and Ellis Carson "E.C." Knighten and two brothers, Alton and Calvin Knighton. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 30, 2015 at University Baptist Church on Lake Street. The Rev. Henry Prentice will officiate. Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
