Uland Trent Guidry died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 26, 2011.
He was born October 21, 1970 in Lake Charles to Uland Guidry, Jr. and Freda Theriot Guidry. He was raised in Creole. As a young boy, he was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Creole where he was an alter server and where he was honored as Outstanding Catholic Youth in 1988. He was awarded the State FFA Superintendent's Award in 1987, and the State FFA Governor's Award in 1988. He exhibited many champion lambs, hogs, and cattle during his livestock career, including the Champion Market Lamb at the Cameron Parish Junior Livestock Show; the Grand and Reserve Champion Market Lamb, Grand and Reserve Champion Breeding Heifer, and the Reserve Champion Market Hog at the Southwest District Livestock Show Rodeo; and the Grand Champion Breeding Heifer and numerous division winners in the market lamb and market hog shows at both the Louisiana State Fair and LSU Junior Livestock Show.
He was a 1988 graduate of South Cameron High School where he was active in the 4-H Club, FFA, cross country team, and football team. He then attended McNeese State University and earned a degree in agricultural business. Thereafter, he began his professional career with Calcasieu Marine National Bank in the agricultural loans department. In 1994, he was given the opportunity to pursue his dream and follow in his father's footsteps when he was hired as 4-H extension agent in Calcasieu Parish. While married and raising a family, he earned his master's degree from Louisiana State University. He was instrumental in helping to organize numerous 4-H related activities, including the Calcasieu Parish Jr. Livestock Show and Sale, the Southwest District Livestock Show, the Southwest Louisiana Garden Festival, and the LSU Junior Livestock Show Premier Sheep Exhibitor Contest.
In 2010, he was named as the new State Sheep Specialist for the State of Louisiana and LSU Agricultural Center, an honor he held with great esteem. His childhood home was devastated by Hurricane Rita and Hurricane Ike, and he worked tirelessly to help his family rebuild in its aftermath. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Louisiana Sheep Producers Association. He loved his church, spending time with family and friends, exhibiting and raising livestock, working on the family farm, and watching his 4-H kidssome of whom looked at him as a second father--excel as youths and as adults.
Although he accomplished much in his life and held many things close to his heart, his greatest accomplishment in life and what he held closest to his heart were his wife and his boys. He prayed with his family daily. He supported his family in every way possible. He took on the responsibility of running the family household so his wife could return to school and earn her teaching certificate. He brought his boys to school every morning and supported them in all of their endeavors. He took pride in watching them excel at their chosen activities, whether it be academics, gymnastics, cub scouts, or exhibiting livestock. He was especially proud of his son David's accomplishments as a champion livestock showman and exhibitor, for being the ultimate big brother, and for being the "man-in-change" when his job took him away from home; his son Jacob's accomplishments as a student, cub scout, and livestock exhibitor; and his son Paul's accomplishments in the classroom, as a livestock exhibitor, and as a state champion gymnast. He anxiously awaited the day when his two youngest sons, Noah and Luke, would begin their own journeys so he could be there supporting them every step of the way. He worked tirelessly to help them achieve their goals and was especially proud of them and their accomplishments.
He enjoyed watching Sunday football games, the National Finals Rodeo, and western movies with his boys by his side. His family was his life. He was the ultimate son, brother, husband, and father. He was a kind, loving, hard-working, and fun-loving person who took great pride in his church, his family, his neighbor, and his job. He touched many lives in his short time here on earth and lived life to the fullest. He was greatly loved by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
