Ursula Skippy Lester St. Romain

July 21, 1927 — November 16, 2011

Ursula St. Romain died peacefully at home surrounded by her children and grandchildren early Wednesday morning, November 16.

Ursula grew up in Bunkie and New Orleans, Louisiana, where she was active in community organizations and churches. She graduated from Dominican College in New Orleans with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, and was in honors' societies and the president of her sorority, Theta Pi. She was the Parliamentarian of the student body and was named to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges."

She was a charter member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic parish and has recently been a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church in Moss Bluff. She served as the first secretary/treasurer of the PTC at O.L.Q.H. Elementary School and served two terms on the Parish Council of the Church. She also served as the Parish Council Representative of the Board of Directors of the Monsignor DeBlanc Family Center. She was a lector at the Church for many years and was also a member of the Bar Association Auxiliary. She had a strong love for our Blessed Mother and the Catholic Church and donated generously to several Catholic schools, churches, and organizations.

Ursula was an avid bridge player and had many close friends with whom she played, and in recent years she made many friends at Coushatta where she loved to play the nickel slot machines. She loved to read and travel, enjoying a recent trip to Alaska with her daughters, as well as visits to Hawaii, Texas, Colorado, California, and Oregon where children and grandchildren lived at various times. She traveled extensively, including a trip through Europe and around the world as a chaperone for her son's Centenary College choir tour. She loved learning and placed a high value on education, including learning about other cultures and historic sites around the world.

She was loved by many close friends and family members, including siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews in several states. Those who knew her as Ursula, Skippy, Aunt Skippy, Grandma, or Mom will remember her for her deep love of family and commitment to her children, her sparkling smile and laugh, her warmth and love, and her generosity toward everyone she met.

Ursula is survived by six children: Phillip St. Romain and his wife Judi of Denver Colorado; Odette St.Romain Buller and her husband Rusty of Pueblo West, Colorado; Cecile St.Romain Courville of Moss Bluff; Denise St.Romain Prunty and her husband Patrick of Moss Bluff; Michelle St.Romain Wilson of Medford, Oregon; and Dan St. Romain and his wife Priscilla of San Antonio, Texas; fourteen grandchildren: Joshua St. Romain and his wife Laura; Hank Buller, U.S. Marine, and Jeb Buller; Adam Courville and his wife Jessie; Isaac and Haydee Courville; Garrett, Brigitte, and Katie Prunty; Reid Wilson; and Mathieu, Micah, Marc and Max St. Romain; and two great grandchildren: Dillon St. Romain and Bryce Courville.
