Vaughn R. Ellender

February 22, 1928 — October 30, 2012

Vaughn Regan Ellender, 84, died Tuesday, October 30, 2012, in a local care facility.


Mr. Ellender was born in Sulphur, Louisiana to Bennie and Alice Ellender. He was a 1945 graduate of Sulphur High School where he helped bring home the 1943 state football championship he also played football for Mississippi State. Mr. Ellender graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Louisiana College and a Master's Degree in Education from McNeese State University. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps in World War II.


Mr. Ellender taught School and coached 30 years for the Calcasieu Parish School Board. He taught at LaGrange High School , Sulphur High School, Iowa High School, and Sam Houston High School. He also coached football at Iowa High School and Sam Houston High School. Mr. Ellender was an avid fisherman and gardener. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Moss Bluff for over 40 years.


He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Carroll Ellender; son, David Ellender; and brother, Bennie Ellender, Jr.


He is survived by one son, Daniel and wife Sally Roderique Ellender; daughters, Susan Arrington of Lake Charles, Betty Fontenot of Lake Charles, and Becky Goad of Moss Bluff; nine grandchildren, Laura Arrington, Joelle Arrington, Zac Goad, Jack and Paul Ellender, Jennifer L. Thibodeaux, Michael Fontenot, Gabriel Fontenot, and Joseph Brantley Thibodeaux; five great-grandchildren, Addison Ellender, Trinity Thibodeaux, Tristan Thibodeaux, Brailey Thibodeaux, and Hunter Thibodeaux.



Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 1 PM in the First United Methodist Church of Moss Bluff. Visitation will be Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Home from 5PM until 9PM. Visitation will resume Friday at 10 AM until service time at the church.
