Veda Orsot Biagas, 86, of Lake Charles, LA entered her eternal rest with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, on the morning of Tuesday, March 29, 2016.
Mrs. Biagas was a native of New Iberia, LA and has lived nearly seventy years in Lake Charles. She was the daughter of Sterling Orsot and Suzette (Barras) Orsot, natives of St. Martinville, LA. Veda’s legacy as Matriarch of fourteen children, thirty-seven grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren was her greatest accomplishment. She had an unwavering faith in God and was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church. Her Love of God and Family was the guiding force in her life. Reading and Cooking were among some of her favorite things; however, her greatest joy came from being with her family. She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother.
She leaves to honor her memory, six sons, Alvin Biagas, Jr. of Mitchellville, MD, Terrell Biagas of Lake Charles, LA, Mark Biagas (Melinda), Randy Biagas (Sharon), John Biagas (Tricia), all of Yorktown, VA and Omar Biagas (LaDonnys) of Waldorf, MD; six daughters, Jeanette DuRousseau (Hiram), Darlene Biagas, Evette Gradney (Edward Phillip), all of Lake Charles, LA, Bernadell Carter (Wilbert) of Alexandria, VA, Connie Thomas (Keith) of Keller, TX and Jacinta Poullard (Gary) of Waldorf, MD; two daughters-in-law, Lillie Belton Biagas and Eva Camalo Biagas; three brothers, Nicholas Orsot (Dorothy), Julien Orsot (Theresa) and Henry (Georgia) Orsot; three sisters, Irene Metoyer, Maurine Granger and Joycelyn LeCompte (Godchild); thirty-seven grandchildren, Edwin Biagas, Jr., Kimberly Biagas McIntyre, Shelley Biagas, Courtney Biagas, Hiram DuRousseau, II, Keith DuRousseau, Dena Biagas, Kevin Biagas, Mark Higgins, Corinne Biagas Bowser, Ashley Biagas Dorsey, Lisa Biagas, Justin DuRousseau, Byron Biagas, Randy Biagas, Jr., Daniel Biagas, Cara Gradney Fontenot, Tyler Biagas, Jena DuRousseau Noel, Joshua Higgins, Jared Biagas, Allison Poullard, Vincent Biagas, Kayla Gradney, Jalin DuRousseau, Samantha Thomas, Ryan Gradney, Amanda Thomas, Brent Poullard, Dillon Biagas, Christian Biagas, Matthew Poullard, Jacob Thomas, Brandi Biagas, Alexandra Biagas, Carly Biagas and Brandon Biagas; twenty-two great-grandchildren; her Godchild, Sally Nelson Guillory and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years, Alvin Biagas, Sr.; her two sons, Edwin Biagas, Sr. and Gerard Biagas; one grandchild, Peter Christian Biagas; her parents, Sterling and Suzette Orsot; her siblings, Spalding Orsot, Bertina Nelson, Francis Orsot and Sedonia Granger and two daughters-in-law, Ida Toussaint Biagas and Glenda Broussard Biagas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00am, Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00pm until 9:00pm on Friday, April 1, 2016 with a scripture service and rosary beginning at 6:30pm. Visitation will continue from 8:00am until 10:30am on Saturday, April 2, 2016 in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Father Tim Goodly will be Celebrant.
