Velma Joyce Abshire

Velma Joyce Abshire, 76, of Lake Charles, died Saturday January 3, 2015 at a local hospital. Mrs. Abshire was a native of Oak Grove, LA and a longtime resident of Lake Charles. She was an avid reader and was the Dallas Cowboy's number one fan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Alice Davis Huff. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charley Abshire; son, Michael Abshire and wife Carol, Houston; daughters, Natalie Wall and husband Michael, Lake Charles; Velma Matte and husband Kim, Lake Charles; Deborah Andrus and husband Clif, Arkansas; Carla Hunt and Mark Tanet, Houston; and Joy Etkins and husband Orlanzo, Shreveport; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and another on the way; and a sister, Jean Simpkins and husband Rodger, West Monroe, LA. Visitation will be on Tuesday January 6, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Funeral services will be at 3:00 Tuesday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gary Evers officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
