Velma Marie Matte

Velma Marie Matte, 54, died Thursday September 24, 2015 at her residence. Velma was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Glad Tidings Church and graduated from LaGrange High School. Velma loved football and was a diehard Saints fan. Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memories are her husband Robert Kim Matte; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Nicole and Calvin Leger, Jillian Miller and Holland Jones, Amber Reese all of Lake Charles, Louisiana; father, Charley Abshire of Lake Charles; brother, Michael Abshire of Richmond, Texas; 4 sisters, Natalie Wall of Moss Bluff, Deborah Andrus of Bee Branch, Arkansas, Carla Hunt of Friendswood, Texas and Joy Etkins of Shreveport, Louisiana; 10 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother, Velma Joyce Huff Abshire. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Saturday September 26, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Evers officiating. Interment to follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends on Friday from 2-9 PM and Saturday from 10 AM till time of service.
