Velma Lee Morgan, 90, of Lake Charles, LA passed away peacefully surrounded by family at 9:02 PM on Saturday, January 4, 2025 in a local assisted living facility. She was born April 19, 1934 in DeRidder, LA to Enos and Clemence LeJune.
She grew up in Ragley, LA, and was a graduate of Ragley High School. During her high school years, she participated in band, tennis, baseball, and basketball. She was a member of FHA, and the Glee Club, and she served as Class Secretary.
She later moved to Lake Charles where she met and married the love of her life, Norman Morgan. She was a devoted homemaker and room mother. She could be found supporting her daughters and her grandchildren in their many activities.
She and Norman were faithful members of First Baptist Church of Lake Charles. They were big supporters of McNeese Cowboy Athletics. You could find them every Wednesday morning baking biscuits, served along with her famous homemade Mayhaw Jelly for the coaches during football season.
Velma is survived by her daughters, Teri Peterson (Tyler) and Rita Lejeune (Chuck), all of Lake Charles. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Angela Lee and her husband Nick, with their children, Myla and Morgan of Lake Charles, Scott Peterson and his wife Kara, with their children, Preston, Cohen and Ella Grace of Moss Bluff, Mark Peterson and his wife Kacie, with their children, Mary Margaret and Jack of Lake Charles, Kevin Lejeune and his wife Katherine, with their children, Beau, Jack and Annie of Baton Rouge, and James Peterson and his wife Gabrielle, with their children, Vivian and Caroline of Lake Charles; her brother-in-law, Duane Morgan (Nicola) of Houston, TX; and her sister-in-law, Brenda Morgan Tell, also of Houston, TX; and Joyce LeJune of Lake Charles.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Norman Morgan, her parents, Enos and Clemence LeJune, her sisters, Doris Cole and Ethel Cook, her brothers, Marvin LeJune, Milton LeJune, Jimmy LeJune, and Jessie LeJune.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 11, 2025 in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel. Rev. Tim Bergen will serve as Officiant. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, January 10, and will resume on Saturday morning at 11:00 AM, continuing until the time of the service at 1:00 PM.
The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and caregivers at Sage Oak Assisted Living for the wonderful care given to Velma over the last two years. House 3 became her home, where special friendships were made.
We would also like to thank Amedisys for their support and care during the last weeks of her life.
