Vergie Lee Manuel

Vergie Lee Fontenot Manuel, 87, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 1:58 PM on Monday, January 18, 2016 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Manuel was born February 13, 1928 in Ville Platte, LA, where she lived until moving to Lake Charles in 1968. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. She was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven and a member of the Catholic Daughters for over forty years. During her younger years, she was always volunteering at the church and at her children’s schools. Mrs. Manuel enjoyed playing Bingo and gardening. She was a beloved mother who was always giving herself to her children and to her grandchildren that she loved dearly.

Mrs. Manuel is survived by her daughter, Lisa Moya of Houston, TX; sons, Eugene Ortego and wife Rae of Opelousas, LA and Curtis Manuel, Jr. and wife Paula of Houston, TX; son-in-law, Donnie Ritter of Vinton, LA; her good friends, The Golden Girls; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Manuel, Sr.; daughters, Loretta Ortego and Priscilla Ritter; sisters, Mary Hobbs and Eva Fontenot; and brothers, Curley Fontenot and Nathan Fontenot.

Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Father Jeffrey Starkovich will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday at the funeral home from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
