Verna Bacon George

Verna Bacon George, 94, of Lake Charles, LA, died on Sunday, May 14, 2017 in her residence.

 

Mrs. George was born August 9, 1922 in Mamou, LA, where she graduated from high school and has lived all of her adult life in Lake Charles. She worked for the DOTD for over twenty years as an Administrative Secretary. She was a member of South City Christian Church, where she loved her church family. Mrs. George was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress and enjoyed gardening and tending to her fruit trees. She will always be remembered as a loving and wonderful mother and the kindest woman you could ever meet.

 

Mrs. George is survived by her daughters, Barbara Graske and Jean Smith, both of Lake Charles; step-daughter, Lois Benjamin of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Melissa Graske, Thomas Benjamin and wife Karen and James Benjamin and wife Kristin; great-grandchildren, Thomas, Ryan, Delaney, and Liam Benjamin; and sister-in-law, Betty Bacon of Lake Charles.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, James George; and brother, Joseph Bacon.

 

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Robby Bacon will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Thursday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
