Verna Roberts Adcock, 86, of Lake Charles passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 in the comfort of her daughter's home. Mrs. Adcock was born in Bel, LA, one of ten children, to Joseph and Elberty Gilley Roberts. She lived most of her life in the Lake Charles area. She was a graduate of Gillis High School and went on to become quite an accomplished young woman. She worked in retail sales at Muller's Department Store, was a Teacher's Aide in Special Education for ten years and was the first woman Industrial Estimator in LA, working for the Delta Southern Company in Baton Rouge. Mrs. Adcock was equally as dedicated to her Faith as an active member of Moss Bluff United Methodist Church, Building Committee and United Methodist Women. In her later years she was a faithful member of University United Methodist Church and the CCOA. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, traveling and camping as a family and traveling with her husband following their retirement. Mrs. Adcock will be most remembered as a woman of strength. She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Jackie Roach and husband Elmer of Lake Charles; six grandchildren, Sean Roach and wife Rebecca, Brian Roach and wife Wendy, Renee Marceaux and husband Wayne, Chuck Adcock and wife Andrea, Tommy Adcock and wife Jackie, Heather Bohannon and husband Toby and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Henry Adcock, Jr., one son, Charles Adcock; her parents and nine brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM Saturday, September 27, 2014 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Charlie Langford will officiate. Interment will follow in Ritchie Cemetery. Visitation Saturday will be from 10:30 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
