Vernette "Net" Leger

January 14, 1941 — April 1, 2022

Vernette “Net” Ann Leger was born January 14, 1941 in Sulphur, LA to Vernice J. and Alice Derouen.

She attended Sulphur High School and was a member of the dance line. Even in school, she enjoyed attending a good dance-it was a school dance that she met Harry Leger, a visitor from their rival school, Lake Charles High. She overlooked this fatal flaw and enjoyed an evening with him. Shortly after graduation, she and Harry exchanged vows on October 18, 1958.

Shortly after their wedding Harry enlisted into the United States Air Force and upon his honorary discharge, he became a pipefitter-which allowed them to enjoy the beauty of the American countryside.

She was a stay-at-home mother to their six children, and as a family they enjoyed camping trips to the many local parks, beaches, and lakes between Holly Beach to Toledo Bend, or crabbing or fishing the waterways for their dinners.

She was a brilliant and talented woman who had an eye for decorating, drawing, and dancing. Her Christmas Trees were picturesque; perfectly designed with every ornament strategically placed. Saturdays were always reserved for family-either to visit her parents or staying home, Lawrence Welk on the television as she was teaching her children to dance. She also was fond of drawing and working as a florist- even designing the flowers for each of her children’s weddings.

Together she and Harry enjoyed visiting the local dancing holes where they would jitter bug or dance the night away with the likes of Fats Domino, Ronnie Milsap, Jerry Lee Lewis, and even Mickey Gilley.

In her latter years she enjoyed visiting her neighbors to enjoy a good cup of coffee, watching westerns, and even caring for her parents in their elder years.

She was welcomed into Heaven on April 1, 2022 by her husband of forty years, Harry Joseph Leger; parents, Vernice and Alice Derouen; sister Sherry Derouen; brother, Craig Derouen; a sister in-law, Jolynn M. Derouen.

Those left to cherish her memory; children, Vince (Shelley) Leger, Melanie Grantham, Dalton J. Leger and fiancé Edna DelRio, Julie (Bryant) Collins, Michelle (Randall) Hoben, and Thomas P. Leger (Joyce Kirkham); grandchildren, Victoria (Adam) Sneed, Heather Leger, Haley Dunham, Amanda Grantham, Cody (Jessica) Grantham, Daniel (Tara) Grantham, Lori Ann (Justin) Leger, Crystal (John) Larrieu, Aaron Collins, Drue (Octavia) Collins, Brok (Sadie) Timpa, Lexie (Riley) Poston, Harry K.
