Vickie Dehoma Ash Parker, 76, of Sulphur, LA entered into Heaven with God, Saturday, May 27, 2023. She was born in Ville Platte, LA on October 17, 1947.
Vickie attended Sulphur High School and graduated in 1965. She attended McNeese State University where she earned her Bachelor of Sciences degree in Home Economics in 1969 and her Master’s Degree and plus 30 in Math and Supervision in Education in 1974 and 1980.
Vickie met Ronnie Parker in third grade and married him August 24, 1968.
Vickie taught at Hackberry High School and was teacher of vocational home economics, Family and Consumer Sciences, and Math; she was the FHA/FCCLA advisor for 33 years. Vickie was selected as Louisiana Home Economics Teacher of the year in 1984. She retired May 30, 2002.
Vickie was an active member of Houston River Baptist Church since Jan. 14, 1973. Vickie served as Sunday School teacher for youth and adult for many years.
Vickie was a GIVER of her time, money, skills and care. It seemed like she was always cooking and bringing food to those in need.
Vickie loved Jesus and was happy to share salvation with anyone who would listen. She was a fighter and survived Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer.
Vickie loved to travel with family and friends. She enjoyed the ladies group from church, Geaux Gals, as they had just gotten back from Tennessee. She loved to talk and had a way of making all feel included and special.
Vickie is survived by “adopted daughter,” Beverly Koonce, brother Tim Ash (Linda), brother Dane Ash (Vicky), sister Delores “Dee” Roosevelt, sister in laws Julie Peterson (Jeff), Martha Parker of South Carolina, Mary Ann Van Haverbeke (Mark) of New Mexico and Tonya Parker of Minnesota. She is also survived by aunts as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Ronnie Parker, and her parents Victor and Dorothy Ash.
Vickie’s funeral service will be held at Houston River Baptist Church on Saturday, June 3 at 11 AM. Visitation will be at the church on Friday, June 2 from 5-7 PM and on Saturday from 10 AM until the service at 11 AM. Burial will be at Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss.
