Vilton Orey Matt, 70, of Lake Charles passed away on his father’s birthday, Wednesday, June 13, 2018 peacefully at his home.
Mr. Matt was born on February 16, 1948 in Lake Charles where he was a 1966 graduate of LaGrange High School. He attended the Institute of Baking in Chicago, IL before joining the US National Guard for the next 16 years. Mr. Matt also had education in the banking profession and retired from banking after 20 years of service. Following his retirement, he began a 10 year career with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Department before retiring. He attended St. Henry Catholic Church.
He had a long time passion for antique cars and enjoyed dancing and traveling with his wife. Mr. Matt especially enjoyed family time and cherished his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of more than 10 years, Margaret Matt of Lake Charles; daughters, Shontel LeDoux (Ross) of Madisonville, LA and Tara Corman (Carl) of Dequincy; step daughter, Joni Benoit (Dennis Bakle) of Welsh; sisters, Sherry Kremer (Kerry) of Chicago, IL, Peggy Arabie of Lake Charles; Nancy Clooney (Scott) of Sulphur, and Rhonda Adams of Lake Charles; brothers, Gilton Matt, his twin, of Lake Charles and Eric “Ricky” Matt of Hecker; two granddaughters, Madison and Regan LeDoux; one grandson, Coen Corman; four step granddaughters, Autumn and Gabby Benoit, and Cierra and Gracie Savoie; and two step grandsons, Austin and Kylan Benoit. He also leaves behind numerous treasured nieces and nephews who affectionately called him “Unc”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Aurelian Matt, Jr.; step son, Coy Benoit; and two brothers-in-law, Joe Arabie and Darrell Daigle.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Monsignor Charles Dubois will officiate. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Friday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until leaving for the church at 9:30 AM.
Pallbearers will be: Gilton Matt, Jeremy Matt, Ronald Kremer, Carl Corman, Jessie Arabie, and Ross LeDoux. Honorary pallbearers will be: Francis Durr and Scott Clooney.
