Viola Ruth Cooke Moore, 99, died on Sunday, May 14, 2017, in a local care facility.
Born in Iowa, Louisiana to John Fredrick and Edith May Lightner Cooke, Mrs. Moore lived many places in the world during her lifetime as she followed her husband during his military career. She returned to the Lake Charles area in the mid 1970’s, upon his retirement from military service. She enjoyed participating in various sports as a young woman and continued to enjoy bowling throughout adulthood. She was of the Mormon faith.
Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, Reverend Joseph Cooke of Ft. Myers, Florida and her sister, Wanda Marie Cooke of Lake Charles, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of fifty-two years, Oscar Moore; one daughter, Janet Ruth Moore; two sisters, Helen Cooke and Emily Cooke Kline; and three brothers, Howard, Elbert and Cleo Cooke.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, March 17, 2017 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the start of the service.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving care so unselfishly given their beloved sister to three dear nieces, Jeanie Landry, Marie DelaRosa, and Deborah Laughlin.
