Virgil Perry Hamberlin

January 27, 1926 — May 10, 2012

Virgil Perry Hamberlin, 86, died Thursday, May 10, 2012, in a local hospital.


Born, raised and educated in Colfax, LA and has lived the past forty-five years in Lake Charles. Mr. Hamberlin served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Following his tour of duty, he made Lake Charles his home. He was a salesman for Solar Supply, Carlburg Supply and was manager for Home Building Materials, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Sale Street Baptist Church. Mr. Hamberlin loved to tinker with his lawnmower and other yard tools and was always happy to help friends and neighbors if they had problems with their yard equipment. He enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and anything that regarded beautifying his yard.


He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of twenty-one years, Virginia Faye Hamberlin of Lake Charles; son, Rick Hamberlin of Beaumont, TX; daughter, Alice Hamberlin Hawkins and husband Steve of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Brian Bourque of Los Angeles, CA, Megan Bourque of Lake Charles and Madison Hamberlin of Houston, TX and three sisters, Myrtis Doty of Colfax, LA, Velma Shaw of Montgomery, LA, and Vera Keith of Wyoming.


He was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Lucy Essie Lee Hamberlin and two sisters, Jeannette Johnson and Thelma Nash.


The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the Doctors and staff of unit 41 and Hospice of Christus St. Patricks Hospital for their excellence in care and compassion.


Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in Prien Memorial Park under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Carlys Beard will officiate. Interment will follow. Visitation Monday will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
