Virginia D. Fontenot, 90, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 6:50 AM on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at a local hospital.
Mrs. Fontenot was born May 20, 1927 in Mamou, LA, lived in New Orleans, LA for a number of years before moving to Lake Charles in 1952. She worked at TG&Y as a saleslady. Mrs. Fontenot was an active member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and part of the Ladies Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters for fifty-six years. She was also a founding member of Come Lord Jesus, where she served as the leader for over fifty years. She was an excellent cook and homemaker and loved to entertain and host social events at her home.
Mrs. Fontenot is survived by her sons, Stacy James Fontenot of Lake Charles, Randall Mark Fontenot and wife Kaffy of Lake Charles, Eric Jules Fontenot and wife Helene of Denver, CO and Chris Anthony Fontenot and wife Cathy of Lake Charles; brother, Joseph “J.L.” Deshotels and wife Geneva of Lake Charles, LA; sister, Mary Sonnier of Elizabeth, LA; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Qullis Fontenot; and parents, Emile and Mea Deshotels; daughter, Diane Perrodin; grandchild, Kevin Porter; and eleven siblings.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Father Vijaya Peddoju will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Monday, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at the funeral home from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM.
