Virginia Ingels McCurley, 83, of Lake Charles died Sunday August 3, 2014 in a local hospital with her family at her side. Virginia was born on December 14, 1930 in Arkansas City, Kansas. Her family moved to Sulphur, Louisiana, where she was a member of the 1947 graduating class of Sulphur High School. She then attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles. Virginia worked for Dr. Charles Fellows and later worked with the kindergarten students at First Baptist Church of Maplewood. She was an active member of the Seekers Sunday School Class of St. Luke Simpson United Methodist Church and the Krewe de la Noblesse in Lake Charles. Virginia led an active life and enjoyed a variety of activities including painting, sewing, cooking, golfing, bridge, mahjohgg, tennis and fishing. She and her husband traveled to every state of the union and throughout several Canadian Providences. She was also an avid reader. Virginia is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Bill (W.H.) McCurley, Lake Charles, daughter, Jolyn Derouen and husband Craig, Sulphur; son, Dennis Mark McCurley, Dallas, Texas; sister, Vero Jo Ingels Greenwood and husband Eddie, Scottsdale, AZ; three grandsons, Cody Derouen and wife Brandi, Seth Austin McCurley and Steffon Alexander McCurley. As to her request, Virginia donated her body to science. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday August 7, 2014 at St. Luke Simpson United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jack O'Dell and Roger Templeton officiating. Memorials may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, St. Luke Simpson United Methodist Church or Southern Care hospice. The family wishes to extend heartfelt and sincere thanks for the compassionate care and love shown to our wife, mother and grandmother by the entire staff of West Cameron Calcasieu Hospital, Dr. Maureen Lann, The Seekers Sunday School Class of St. Luke Simpson United Methodist Church and the Krewe de La Nobleesse in her final days.
