Virginia J. Brown

Virginia Juanita Brown, 93, of Lake Charles, LA passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2017 with her husband at her side

 

Mrs. Brown grew up as one of thirteen children and was born on July 31, 1924 in Bel, LA to Joseph and Victoria Thigpen. She attended high school in Shreveport, LA. Mrs. Brown worked as a Switch Operator at Bell South during World War II. She met the love of her life and was blessed with seventy-one years of marriage, as well as three children. While raising her children she also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and she cherished her time with her grandchildren.

 

Left to cherish Mrs. Brown’s memory is her loving husband, James “J.R.” Ray Brown of Lake Charles, LA; daughters, Charlene Tharp and husband Tim of Houston, TX, and Winnona “Jane” Wooden of Calabasas, CA; son, James “Ronnie” Brown and wife Karen of Wako, TX; grandchildren, Derek Brown (Amber), Ashleigh Bunjes (Ryan Mosier), Bridget Mack (Matthew), Stephanie Anderson (Randy Neeley), Donald Shadwell (Jill), David Aubrey, and Victoria “Vicki” Cavazo (Carlos); as well as her great grandchildren, Amira and Memphis Neeley, Briella Tharp, Thane Brown, and Morgan and Cameron Shadwell.

 

Mrs. Brown is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Victoria Thigpen; and her siblings, Jay, Grace, Rose, Mable, Jodie, Robert, Jordan, Francis, Mattie, Virgie, Newton, and Clifford.

 

Her funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home. Reverend Alfred Gibson will officiate. Burial will be at Creel Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Reeves, LA. Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until the start of the service.
