Virginia Key

September 10, 1927 — July 28, 2010

Virginia Key, age 82, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at a local hospital.

Born September 10, 1927, in Converse, LA, to G.I. and Lurline McGee Paul, she was a graduate of North Western State University where she was a member of Sigma Sigma Simga Sorority. She was a highly requested first grade teacher for over 30 years with the Calcasieu Parish School Board, spending much of her career at Dolby Elementary School. Virginia loved gardening and working in her yard along with her weekly bible studies. Aside from collecting porcelain dolls, too, she truly loved country and western music, especially George Strait. For her 82nd birthday, she attended his concert and had a blast. Her family was very special to her, including her great-grand dogs. She will be greatly missed by her family and all her knew and loved her. Preceding her in death was her husband, Jack Key, and a very special friend, Lester Goins.

Survivors include her loving daughter, Joy Key Guidry of Lake Charles; a step-daughter, Gaye Searight of Austin, TX; three very special granddaughters, Marissa, Kara, and Staci Guidry all of Lake Charles; and a very special niece who was always there for her Aunt Virginia, Joan Faulk and husband, John of Carlyss.

A celebration of Ms. Key's life and home going will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Johnson Funeral Home. Brother Eddie Simmons will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Aflred Claude IV, Doug Theriot, Jr., Jace Fulmer, Chuck Kinney, Johnny Faulk, and Justin Key. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 30, from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Saturday, July 31, from 8 a.m. until time of service.
