Virginia Lee Upshaw

Virginia Lee Upshaw, 74, of Lake Charles passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014. Mrs. Upshaw was born on February 15, 1940, in Lake Charles where she was raised and attended Lake Charles High School. She lived in Lafayette and New Iberia for many years before returning to Lake Charles in 2009. Despite her lengthy and challenging illness, her smile brought light and happiness to all who met her. She loved music from her earliest years, and her greatest joy was her family. She was very special and will be missed. Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Vickie Lynn Bufkin and husband Eric of Austin, and Pamela Joy Nelson and husband Patrick of Sulphur; a brother, John Joseph Khoury of Houston; and four grandchildren, Whitney Viator Shivel, Paige Bufkin, and Riley and Austin Nelson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Donald Clayton Upshaw; a daughter, Aura Lee Upshaw; and her parents, Virginia Lee Cadenhead and Kamiel John Khoury. A family inurnment will be held at Graceland Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
