Virginia Owens

Virginia Merle Halbe Owens, 85, of Westlake, LA died at 8:39 AM on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 in a local care facility.

Mrs. Owens was born July 5, 1925 in Santa Rosa, CA. She met and married the love of her life and moved to Lake Charles in 1946. A member of the Baptist faith, she worked at Caraway's Pharmacy in Westlake, LA and also at Kindercare, where she was affectionately known as "Mrs. Ginny." She enjoyed playing BINGO and will always be remembered for her sense of humor.

Mrs. Owens is survived by her six children, Lanei Pool and husband Joe David of DeRidder, Shayne LaLanne of Westlake, Denice Breaux and husband Clifton of Westlake, Michele Owens-Savoy and husband Larry of Westlake, Wayne Owens and wife Melissa of Ragley, and Duane Owens of Sulphur; sister, Ronnie Martin of Arizona; ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and her dog, Little Bit.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Owens; brother, George Halbe; and sisters, Genevieve and Marion Hazel.

Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Joe D. Pool and Clif Breaux will officiate. Burial will follow in Westlake Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, or Feed the Children.
