Viva Ray Savoy

January 18, 1922 — August 18, 2013

Viva Ray Hayes Savoy passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends at 91 years of age on Sunday, August 18, 2013.

Rara was a native of Hayes, LA, lived in Lake Charles for many years raising her family, and was a resident of Baton Rouge for the last 12 years. She loved to bowl and did so into her 70's. She was a beautiful woman both inside and out, who was very wise and extremely funny. She loved her dog, Coal, and seemed to receive a great deal of comfort from his presence. Rara was dearly loved by everyone who came into contact with her, and will never be forgotten.

She was preceded in death by parents, Wasey Hayes and Gertrude Turner Scanlan; husband, Nelson J. Savoy; son, Nelson J. (Joe) Savoy II, two great grandchildren, Morgan Deaton and Christina Garcia; siblings, Wasey Shirley Hayes, Roy Turner Hayes, and Geraldine LaFleur.

Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, Robert Lee Hayes and wife Shirley of Houston, TX, daughters, Jackie Pachuca and husband, Richard, of Orange, TX; Judy Granger and husband, Wilson, of Carlyss, LA; and Janet Savoy of Baton Rouge, LA; daughter-in-law, Kristy Savoy Lemmons; grandchildren, Ken Michon, John Michon, Shayne Cormier, Heather Savoy, Garrett Guilbeau, Tiffany Granger, Lisa Murphy, and Bethany Diamond; thirteen great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many friends that count themselves fortunate to have shared her life.

Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles on Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Reverend Chris Fuselier will officiate. Burial will be in Hayes Cemetery in Hayes, LA.
