Wallis John Menard, 78, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 12:30 AM on Saturday, March 12, 2016 in his residence.
Mr. Menard was born February 14, 1938 in Church Point, LA, graduated from Church Point High School and attended USL in Lafayette. He worked for over forty-three years for Southern Pacific Railroad, retiring as yard master in 2000. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and made his Cursillo. Mr. Menard loved playing card games, including Texas Hold’em, with friends. He also enjoyed gardening, watching TV series, including Westerns, and loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was a devoted family man, who loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his dog, Mickey, dearly. “Big Wally” as he was known, loved to joke and tell stories and enjoyed his chews up until the last day.
Mr. Menard is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Anna Lee Phillips Menard; sons, Kevin Menard and wife Bonnie of Moss Bluff, Kent Menard and wife Jennie of Lake Charles, and Dr. Keith Menard of Lake Charles; daughters, Pamela Elmer and husband Joey of Gillis, LA and Paula Mouton and husband Tommy of Lake Charles; his beloved dog, Mickey; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raoul and Bertha Menard; and brother, Marion Menard.
His funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Monday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at the funeral home from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
