Walter Larry Jones

September 8, 1948 — June 24, 2022

Born in Virginia in 1948, the 3rd child of Oscar and Lucile, Walter Larry Jones had a life filled with love.

Larry loved his girls.  He knew he wanted to marry Linda the first time he saw her.  They married younger than their parents wanted them to, but after 53 years their marriage sustained them both.  Larry said that his goal as a father was that his girls, Amy and Sandy, would always know that they were loved.  He set a standard for them that boys in their life could never meet.  When his girls needed him, he dropped everything, did not ask why, he was there.

Larry loved the church.  When discussing what he believed with his girls he said that that all he knew was that his life was better with God in it.  It was a joke with Linda that when hard times came, he said “We need to go to church”.  He served in many capacities with his local congregations from leading the youth group when Amy and Sandy were in school to construction teams and committee leadership.

Larry loved his family.  He talked to his brother, Jack, nearly every day and considered the strength, intelligence, and confidence of his sister Peggy to be the example of how he wanted his daughters to be.

Larry loved anything with a motor.  Self-taught, he marked milestones in his life by the car he had at the time or the car he was restoring.  When he was no longer able to restore cars, he started restoring John Deere tractors.  A hobby his shared with his brother.

Larry loved to learn, loved to plan, and loved to have a project in the works.  He enjoyed having discussions about faith, politics, and what was going on in the world.  Failure as a concept did not exist for him.  If anything he tried did not work, he would simply try something else until the project was complete.  He loved working shoulder to shoulder with his friends knowing together anything was possible.

On June 24, 2022, we lost a friend, a husband, a father, a protector, and a comforter.

The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be sent to First United Methodist Church, DeRidder, LA.
