Walter Lee Rogers, Jr., 65, of Iowa, LA died at 11:35 AM on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 in a local hospital surrounded by his family. Mr. Rogers was born on March 15, 1948 in Lake Charles, LA and lived in Creole the majority of his life before moving to Iowa, LA following the devastation of Hurricane Rita. He was a graduate of LaGrange High School, attended McNeese and graduated from a 2 year technical school in Crowley with a degree in air conditioning and refrigeration. Mr. Rogers served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he and his wife were stationed in Berlin, Germany. He retired from Cameron Parish School Board after 25 years of service in maintenance. He attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. He raised and showed Red Brangus Cows and belonged to the American Red Brangus Association. Mr. Rogers loved the outdoors, hunting, and trail riding on horseback with his friends. He also enjoyed sports, especially football. Mr. Rogers never met a stranger. His personality was that of a jokester and prankster. Most of all, he adored his family and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 44 years, Sherry Rogers; a daughter, Dawn Sedlock and husband Joey and two sons, Sean Rogers and wife Stephanie and Scott Rogers and wife Tiffany all of Iowa, LA; a sister, Jeanette Benoit of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, Joel Rogers and wife Kelsey, and Michael, Walter Gage, and Sophie Sedlock; and one great granddaughter, Cheyenne Gary. He was preceded in death by his parents, Enez and Walter Lee Rogers, Sr. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 3, 2013 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. The Rev. Alan Trouille will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM in the funeral home.
