With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Wanda June Ortego, born on August 31, 1934, and went home with the Lord on February 10, 2025. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and friend, one of the most loving and kind-hearted souls you could ever meet.
Mrs. June’s family meant everything to her. She poured her heart into every moment spent with her loved ones, creating a home filled with warmth, faith, and unconditional love. As a devout Christian, she walked a life of faith and service to God, touching countless lives with her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering belief in His grace.
To know her was to be blessed. Whether through a simple conversation, a kind gesture, or her ever-present smile, she had a way of making everyone feel special. Those who had the privilege of meeting her walked away knowing they had encountered a truly remarkable person—a joy and a light in this world. Mrs. June had many names given to her by those who knew her – Sweet, Kind, Precious, Treasure, Godly, and an Angel. God sent Mrs. June to earth to Mother David, Scott, and Doug and they now can trust that she is back in His loving arms enjoying the fruits of her labor of love.
June is survived by her sons, David Ortego, Doug Ortego (Angie), and Scott Ortego (Diana); her two sisters Martha Winder (David), and Janice Thomson (Brad); grandchildren, Jeremy Ortego (Tiffany), Kayla Ortego Gray (Brian), Megan Ortego Vincent (Zach), David Ortego, Aaron Ortego (Michelle), and Alexa Ortego Daigle (Kyle); bonus grandchildren Hadley Hantz, Hallie Hantz Sturdavant (Cody); and great-grandchildren, Madison Ortego Middleton (Noah), Jacob Ortego, Joey Ortego, Jonah Ortego, Jordan Ortego, McKensie Ortego, Bryleigh Gray and her fiancé Daxton Cormier, Connor Gray, Camden Gray, Baylor Vincent, Gray Vincent, Harlow Vincent, Kiersten Ortego, Drayton Ortego, Blakesly Daigle, and Kingslen Daigle; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry forward her legacy of faith, love, and strength.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years Terry Ortego; her parents Bussie Simeon Dossman Jr. and Edith Lee Dossman; her brother Derryl Athens Dossmann; and her nephew Dirk Dossmann.

A Graveside service will follow at 2:30pm at Griffin hills Cemetery in Lone Pine, Louisiana. Visitation will be open to the public Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm and will continue at 9:00am on Friday before the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Though our hearts ache with her absence, we take comfort in knowing that she is now rejoicing in the presence of her Savior. Her love, faith, and gentle spirit will live on forever in the lives of those she touched.
