Warner Ray Bertrand

Warner R. Bertrand, 82, of Lake Charles died at 1:16 PM on Saturday, August 20, 2011 in his residence.


Mr. Bertrand was born on July 19, 1929 in the town of Sulphur, LA. He was a graduate of LaGrange Sr. High School and attended college at Southwest Mississippi Jr. College on a football scholarship. Mr. Bertrand served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Carboline as an outside industrial salesman before working in the youth division for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Department. He was active in coaching baseball and softball for many years.


He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church where he was a past member of the Knights of Columbus.


Mr. Bertrand loved life and never met a stranger. He loved to dance with his "bride", and loved all sports. He could change the atmosphere of a room with his upbeat positive attitude. He will be greatly missed.


He leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Frances (Teetum) Hinton Bertrand; and two daughters, Joanie and Donna Bertrand all of Lake Charles; and a half sister, Mary Ann Bertrand. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that loved him.


He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Rozas and father, Felix Bertrand; and a brother, Jean Bertrand.


A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a prayer services being conducted by Mr. Bertrand's nephew, Rev. Brian Fitkin. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 9:45 AM in the funeral home.
