Warren "Shorty" James Breaux

January 22, 1936 — November 9, 2021

Warren James “Shorty” Breaux, 85, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021, in his residence.

Born in Rayne, he was the third son of seven children.  Shorty has resided in Sulphur for 75 years. He started working at a young age wearing the “hats” of shoeshine boy, dishwasher, and paperboy. As an adult he wore the “hat” of Merchant Marine; during this time, he traveled the world. In his retirement, Shorty enjoyed riding his 3-wheel bike around town and visiting with his many friends. The “hat” that was closest to his heart was found in the joy of giving back to others. Shorty raised thousands of dollars for Ronald McDonald House with his “pull tabs” campaign. Many Sulphur schools joined in this campaign and the students were so proud to help Mr. Shorty; through him many Sulphur children learned the joy of giving to others. Shorty’s efforts were known by all in the community, earning him recognition as a KPLC TV Hometown Hero, Sulphur Kiwanis Club Citizen of the Year and Christmas Parade Marshall, and the honor of the City of Sulphur proclaiming June 8th as Shorty Breaux Day. Citizens of Sulphur will greatly miss seeing him throughout town on his bike with his million-dollar smile.  He will be remembered as a man who simply loved helping others.

He is survived by a brother, Bradley Breaux, and wife Betty of Sulphur; his sister, Linda Breaux Burns and husband Craig of Sulphur; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Aurelian Breaux; mother, Agnes Leger Breaux; and brothers, Harold, Harry, Robert, and Nelson Breaux.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m., Friday, November 12, 2021, in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Father Edward Richard, M.S. will officiate.  A private burial will be held Friday afternoon in Rayne under the direction of Johnson & Robison Funeral Home.
