Wayne Frank Simmons, 69, of Lake Charles died Monday, March 31, 2014 in his residence after a long battle with Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS) and cancer. Mr. Simmons was born in Leesville, Louisiana and was raised in Lake Charles. He was a graduate of Lake Charles High School and attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana and the Air Force Electrician School. Mr. Simmons served in the U. S. Air Force. After his tour of duty in Vietnam and Japan, he returned to Lake Charles and worked as an electrician until his illness required early retirement. He is survived by one cousin, Paula Bonath and her husband Mark of League City, Texas and special friends, Kay and Mike Sweeney of Moss Bluff. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson Frank and Georgia Faye Simmons. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until time of service on Thursday. Reverend Thomas Bruce will officiate. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, Disabled American Veterans, or to the Salvation Army.
