Wenching Ma Yen

Wen Ching Ma Yen, age 76, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at Regional Hospital of Acadiana in Lafayette, Louisiana, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 22, 1934 to Ma Kuo Ruei Kung Feng Ying in Shanghai, China. Married and moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana to begin a career in Restaurant Entrepreneurship with her husband Hai Hung Yen who has preceded her in death. They opened many restaurants in the Lake Charles and Lafayette area during their life together and with the help of their children; starting with the very first Chinese restaurant in Lake Charles called "China Garden Restaurant", followed by Shangri-la and Dozo restaurants of Lafayette and Schillileagh's Bar Grill of Lake Charles, Sulphur and New Iberia.

Those left to cherish her memory are a daughter and husband, Helen and Ken Wong of San Francisco, California; three sons and their wives, Alan Yen and Chung Ling Bih of Lafayette, Louisiana, Jimmy and Belinda Yen of Katy, Texas, and Bob and Melody Yen of Lake Charles, Louisiana; ten grandchildren, Angela and Jason Wong, Michael, Irene, Jordan, Payton, Ashley, Dylan, Aaron and Andrew Yen.

Visitation will be on Sunday, October 24, 2010 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM in Johnson Funeral Home. A private burial will be held at Consolata Cemetery.
