Whitney Champagne

Whitney Champagne, 88, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2010 in the comfort of his home.


Mr. Champagne was born in Crowley to Eva (Lormand) and Edmond Champagne on January 26, 1922. He joined the U.S. Army and fought in the Philippines during World War II. He was a retired carpenter, working for Carpenter's Local 953 for many years. In his later years, he enjoyed playing golf.


Mr. Champagne is survived by his two daughters, Darlene Savoie and Janella Hartfield and husband Jack, all of Lake Charles; three grandsons, Jay Savoie of Atlanta, GA, Damon Champagne and Derek Champagne of Lake Charles; and a granddaughter, Sara Dillon and husband Jesse from Steamboat Springs, CO; and two great-grandsons, Jayson and Justin Savoie of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by his loving companion, Ann Searle who never left his side.


Mr. Champagne is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Thelma Boudreaux Champagne; his son, Dwayne Champagne, his son-in-law, Lewis Savoie; and his grand-daughter-in-law, Jennifer Savoie. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Edmae Aguillard and Ella Mae LeBlanc, and his brothers, Wilton Champagne, Dudley Champagne, Euphord Champagne, Edmond Champagne, and Edward Champagne.


His funeral will be Thursday, August 19, 2010, at 11:30 am at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, with an American Legion ceremony at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery. Monsignor Charles Dubois will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 pm to 8 pm and continue on Thursday at 8 am until time of services.
