Wilbert Charles Orphey, Sr.

Wilbert Orphey Sr., affectionately known as “Lil Bit”, was born February 8, 1946 to Ella Breax and Gilbert Orphey in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  He transitioned to be with the Lord May 9, 2020.

Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, Robert Orphey, Lawrence Orphey, Milton Orphey, Larry Orphey, and Gilbert Orphey.  His 6 sisters, Virgie Singleton, Louise Kaough, Doris Bilbo, Elizabeth Reed, Irma Breaux, and Dorothy Ginyard also preceded him as well.

Wilbert lived a full, adventurous life and will be missed greatly by his two brothers, Howard (Faye) Orphey, Wilson (Mary) Orphey, and sister-in-law Ida Orphey.  He is survived by his children Dwayne (Cathy) Guillory, Wilbert (Aquishia) Orphey, Tracey (Kevin) Perry, Christopher (Jocellia) Orphey, Jason (Roshawn) Orphey, Scott Orphey, and Dominique (Andrea) Fontenot.  He also leaves behind 22 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

The family plans to celebrate his life Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Simple Traditions Funeral Home.  A visitation will begin at 9am to 11am and the memorial service will begin immediately following.

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, a gathering celebrating his life will be conducted at a later date.
