Wilbert Godeaux, 91, of Lake Charles, LA died at 8:56 AM on Thursday, April 10, 2014 in his residence. Mr. Godeaux was born November 14, 1922 in Mallet, LA and has lived most of his life in Lake Charles. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II. He worked as a truck driver for Dunham Price for a number of years, worked on the construction of the Atchafalaya Basin, and worked as a store manager for Honeycutt Furniture. He was a past member of the Teamsters Local and was the owner / operator along with his wife of Fabric Plus for a number of years. Mr. Godeaux worked as a school crossing guard at Henry Heights Elementary School for over twenty years. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Mr. Godeaux is survived by his wife of seventy years, Estelle Fontenot Godeaux; son, Oscar Godeaux of Baton Rouge, LA; daughters, Dianne Lynn Godeaux and Dot Carnahan and husband Jim, all of Lake Charles; brother, Walter Godeau of Lake Charles; twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Christina Burgin; one sister; and two brothers. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Father John Huckabywill officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Sunday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday from 10:00 AM to 1:40 PM.
