Wilbert Joseph Gatte, Jr.

Wilbert Joseph Gatte, Jr., (Joe-Joe), 67, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2020 at his home. He was born on February 13, 1953 and resided in Sulphur for most of his life. He also lived in Hackberry for several years.

Joe worked as a shrimper and on tugboats most of his life. He loved to be on the water. He also drove trucks and loved tinkering with small engines. Basically a “Jack of all trades”, but his first love was the water.

Joe is survived by his 3 sisters, Bertha G. Baudoin (Paul), Shirley J. Gatte, and Wanda Faye G. Boulet; 3 nieces, Barbara Boulet Bartlett, Alonda P. Belenger (Kenny), and Brandy Gatte, “Baby Girl”; 2 nephews, Damon Baudoin and Dwayne Baudoin; many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his big brother, Danny Gatte; his parents, Wilbert J. Gatte, Sr. and Ruby L. Gatte; his nephew, Tyler Bartlett and nephew Norris J. Peloquin III.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 20 at Simple Traditions by Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Marcus Wade officiating. Burial will follow at Big Woods Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM.
