Wilbur A. Wulff

W. A. "Cub" Wulff, 97, of Lake Charles died at 10:30 PM Tuesday, November 22, 2011 in a local hospital.


Mr. Wulff was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on August 29, 1914. He graduated from Iowa State University with a BS degree in Forestry and was also a baseball letter winner. Mr. Wulff worked in Missouri at the Clark National Forest, in Oregon at the Deschutes National Forest, and in Idaho on the Clearwater National Forest. He became a representative for several national manufacturers of millwork and moved to Lake Charles in 1939. He served in the United States Army in World War II in Europe, Guam, and Saipan. In Europe his company was awarded a battle star for the Battle of the Bulge and Rhineland. Mr. Wulff was an avid hunter and fisherman and had several magazine articles written about him in Ducks Unlimited and in Peterson Publications. He was a charter member of Rod and Gun Club. He brought some of the first Labrador Retrievers to South West Louisiana and later helped form the Retriever Club which later helped members train their dogs for hunting. Mr. Wulff was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, Delta Waterfowl, Ducks Unlimited, Gulf Coast Bird Club, National Wildlife Federation, Audubon Society, and the Nature Conservancy.


He is survived by his wife of 71 years, June Wulff of Lake Charles, daughter, Kathy Harrington and husband Jim of Charlotte, North Carolina, granddaughter, Shelly Thurman and husband Derrick of Charlotte, North Carolina, and great grandson Andrew James Thurman.


His funeral will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 1:00 PM from the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Chan Willis will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Saturday at 11:00 AM until the time of services.
