Wiley Thomas Schexneider, 76, of Lake Charles passed away Friday, October 04, 2013 in the comfort of his home. Mr. Schexneider was born in Washington, LA and has lived most of his life in Lake Charles. He was a graduate of LaGrange High School and attended McNeese State University where he studied Education. He worked his younger years as an operator for Conoco. He then worked thirteen years in Industrial Sales before establishing, La - Tex Rubber & Specialties, Inc., a successful company he has left his sons, Chris and Cal and daughter, Dionne to continue his legacy. Wiley was always busy, enjoyed working with his hands and was talented with woodworking. He was an outdoorsman, as he also enjoyed nature, fishing, hunting, gardening, lawn work and was an avid golfer. He took great pride in preparing yearly for the arrival of Purple Martins with custom bird houses made of gourds, custom sounds and feeding. Wiley will be most remembered as a, giving and charitable man, his love and devotion to his church and family, and instilling for generations the importance of Sunday gatherings at church and then visits and dinner with extended family. He was a faithful member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and St. Martin dePorres Catholic Church. He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of fifty-six years, Freda Bell Schexneider of Lake Charles; six children, Chris Schexneider and wife Rachelle, CynDee Journey and husband Steve, Angie Sanders and husband Steve, Dionne Olson, Belinda Schexneider and Cal Schexneider, all of Lake Charles; fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Winnie and Ellen Phillips Schexneider. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 08, 2013 at St. Martin dePorres Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Keith Pellerin will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Monday will be from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM in the funeral home.
