William Anthony Verret

William Anthony Verret, 80, of Sulphur, LA passed away Sunday, November 12, 2023 in a local healthcare facility. Mr. Verret was born March 27, 1943 in New Iberia, LA to Howard Joseph Verret and Carolyn Colgin Verret. He was raised in New Iberia, lived many years in Mississippi and lived his later years in Sulphur. He graduated high school in New Iberia and later served the United States Air Force as an active duty Sargeant and continued his service as a Reservist. He then began his collegiate studies at Northwestern State University of Louisiana where he obtained his Bachelor degree. Mr. Verret began his career as an Administrator of Nursing Home Healthcare in Alexandria, LA, working throughout Southern Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf coast. He was an avid outdoorsman, as he enjoyed fishing, crabbing and spending time on the water, especially the waterways of Louisiana. He was a great cook, often cooking from scratch. He was also a talented artist. During his younger years, his passion was for theatre: having been responsible for creating and producing set designs and actively participating in many plays for The Little Theatre in Biloxi, MS. He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Verret Allen and husband James Alvin Allen of Ocean Springs, MS and Rosemary Verret Bergeron of Lafayette; son-in-law, Karl Bergeron of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Holly Moore and husband Nathan of McHenry, MS, Michael Bergeron and wife Tayler of Naples, FL and Kristopher Bergeron and Halle Bergeron, both of Lafayette; eight great-grandchildren, Cody, William, Violet, Nate, Evander, Silas, Theo and Genevieve; three brothers, Joey Verret and wife Cindy of Sulphur, Randy Verret and wife Marie-Luce of Ocean Springs, MS and Glynn Verret and wife Bobbie of New Iberia; one sister, Caroline Wright Of New Iberia; great-niece and granddaughter of heart, Maddie Nichols and husband Dustan and their children, Aiden and Piper; as well as many nieces, nephews, their families and his former wife, mother of his children, Patt Jordan of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, James Chad Allen. Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 1:30 PM Monday November 20, 2023 at the Southwest Louisiana Veteran Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Pastor Tim Vanya will officiate.
