William Edgar "Bill" Stevens, Jr.

June 28, 1960 — June 15, 2023

William E. “Bill” Stevens, 62, passed away on June 15, 2023. He was born on June 28, 1960, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Christine Saloom and William E. Stevens, Sr.

Bill spent part of his life growing up in Wheaton, IL but Lake Charles was his real home for most of his life, where he married and lived with his family.  He was known by family and friends as a natural on the baseball field and the golf course, winning many tournaments and awards on both.  His stories about making a hole in one, winning the Long Ball championship, back-to-back victories at the Westlake Open, and that last pin standing in his quest to bowl a perfect 300 always kept us entertained.  Bill was also a great mechanic and handyman, and he shared those skills with neighbors and friends, willing to cut his neighbors grass or help fix a swimming pool.  For the last few years, his new joy was hanging out with his two grandchildren splashing in the water hose outside or helping his young grandson, Clayton, work on his golf swing.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 38 years, Debra Morse Stevens; his sons, William Tyler Stevens and Evan Michael Stevens, both of Lake Charles; his sisters, Pamela Stevens and Sandra Stevens Ladner (Daryl); his brother, James Ray Stevens; his sister-in-law, Kathy Johnson (Phillip); his grandchildren, William Clayton Stevens and Charli Kate Stevens; and his nephews and nieces and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Walter P. Morse and his mother-in-law, Cynthia Weaver Morse.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at 5:00 PM on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home, located at 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM, and will resume after the service, continuing until 8:00 PM. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.

The family would like to give special thanks to Bill’s family and friends for their support during this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or First Tee, a national organization that helps kids around the country learn the lifelong joy of golf. www.firsttee.org
